22 Dec Concert Hall “Great Amber” (project by design studio Volker Giencke)
The building of the concert hall is a monolithic, tapered, slightly distorted concrete structure with a transparent facade amber hue. Its central architectural element is a huge hall for reception of more than a thousand spectators. Sound system for it was developed together with Karlheinz Müller (Müller-BBM).
Around the hall are situated the premises of the Liepaja Symphony Orchestra, as well as rehearsal rooms of music school, which creates favorable conditions for the strengthening of relations between musicians, students and teachers. Below is a Chamber Hall, ballet studio and experimental scene.
The concert hall can be adapted for meetings, exhibitions and receptions due to the rise of the orchestra pit and parterre seats. For a variety of activities can also be used in space Civita Nova area of 2000 square meters. m.
A key role in the design of building lighting plays. Amber glazing creates a soft, warm atmosphere inside the building, and at night the building glows in the dark, resembling a huge lantern. During the day the facades of the building reflects the surrounding colors, symbolically emphasizes the connection with the city of Great Amber – Baltic Sea ports.
